Job Overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced Oncology nurses to join a well-established and supportive team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. These positions are funded for two years by the Cancer Alliance, with the possibility to second individuals from other roles. A high level of Oncology knowledge and experience is essential, although training and support will be provided to the right candidates. Set working days and flexible working options, including part-time or job share arrangements, can be considered.
Main Duties of the Job
- Provide specialist support for patients receiving oncological treatments within the colorectal and gynaecology Oncology specialities.
- Serve as a key worker for patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or supportive anti-cancer treatments, working closely with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs).
- Demonstrate excellent clinical skills and maintain high standards of care within the speciality, alongside a broad knowledge of oncological treatments.
- Provide compassionate care to patients facing life-changing and potentially life-limiting diagnoses, making a tangible difference in their treatment journey.
- Display exceptional communication skills, delivering complex information in an understandable manner and managing sensitive situations, including breaking bad news.

Person Specification
Experience and Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- Significant post-registration experience within the NHS.
- Experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).
- Experience working at Band 6 level in an oncology setting.
- Advanced knowledge of oncology treatments, side effects, and patient assessment skills.
Desirable Criteria - Experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing policy and guidance.
Education and Professional Development
Essential Criteria
- NMC registered.
- Degree or evidence of working at degree level, or willingness to achieve this.
- Evidence of supporting others with individual professional development.
- Specialist oncology or chemotherapy course or relevant clinical experience.
Desirable Criteria - Experience with service development and improvement.
- Experience attending local, network, or national oncology meetings/forums.
