Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced practitioner to join the Clinical Research Team at the NIHR Leicester Clinical Research Facility (CRF) Research Space, within the Infection, Critical Care, and Emergencies and Injuries teams (ICE). The team consists of dedicated multi-disciplinary professionals committed to providing high-quality patient care and research.
The Research Space is a dynamic environment, successfully recruiting to a diverse portfolio of studies and trials, primarily within secondary care.
This role seeks to appoint a Band 6 Clinical Research Nurse with the required qualifications and experience to join the growing team. The position includes supporting the multi-disciplinary team and contributing to the management structure by assisting in the development of junior and new staff.
The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also operating independently. Training will be provided as required.

About the Trust
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
The role involves acquiring and maintaining a thorough understanding of trial protocols, research methodologies, and relevant regulations to ensure ethical and safe practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop constructive relationships within multi-professional teams.
- Actively participate in local and national networking groups to enhance expertise.
- Identify suitable patients for clinical trials by attending clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings, and reviewing medical records.
- Provide patients with detailed, written information about research studies and obtain informed consent.
- Support patients during clinical monitoring, assessments, and follow-ups as part of research projects.
- Collect and manage patient samples according to defined protocols, such as blood sampling and centrifuging.
- Observe and escalate any adverse treatment effects or toxicity findings.
The position also involves supporting researchers through research capacity and capability assessments, ensuring compliance with national standards and local integration processes for effective study management.
Opportunities for expertise development in other research specialties may arise, and flexibility to work in other areas across the University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) may be required depending on service needs.
Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
- Essential: Current NMC registration as an adult nurse, evidence of ongoing professional development, research experience, and a willingness to undertake relevant training.
- Desirable: Specialist training in clinical research and additional academic qualifications.
Experience
- Essential: Substantial clinical experience post-registration and involvement in clinical trial delivery.
- Desirable: Experience in relevant clinical specialties and managing patients enrolled in research studies.
Skills
- Proven communication and educational skills.
- Analytical capabilities to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
- Familiarity with research design, methodology, and NHS research systems.
- Competency in medication administration, venous sampling, and clinical skills like ECG and venepuncture (desirable).
