About the Role

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking a highly skilled ICT Systems Support Senior Analyst to work in a dynamic, customer-focused, and technically challenging environment. This role involves managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability across all systems.

You will play a key role in leading a team of ICT Systems Support Analysts, providing expert technical guidance and ensuring the smooth operation of IT infrastructure across more than 100 sites, including hospitals, clinics, and support services.

This position is ideal for an experienced IT professional with expertise in server administration, virtualisation, networking, and IT service management.

Key Responsibilities

As an ICT Systems Support Senior Analyst, you will:

  • Support and maintain server infrastructure (Windows, Linux, VMware, SQL, DNS, Load Balancing).
  • Provide technical leadership and act as a subject matter expert on IT infrastructure solutions.
  • Lead and supervise a team of ICT Systems Support Analysts.
  • Manage incident response, troubleshooting, and problem resolution for IT systems and applications.
  • Implement security measures and ensure compliance with GDPR and NISD regulations.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, IT teams, and external suppliers to ensure service delivery.
  • Participate in project management, contributing to system upgrades and new implementations.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, policies, and procedures.
  • Work within an ITIL-based service management framework, ensuring IT best practices.
  • Participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours support and emergency response.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in IT.
  • Postgraduate diploma-level specialist IT training, such as ITIL Intermediate Lifecycle qualification.
  • Experience in IT service management, system administration, and project management.
  • Expertise in server infrastructure, including Windows Server, Linux, VMware, SQL, DNS, Load Balancing, and Remote Desktop.
  • Knowledge of scripting tools (e.g., PowerShell) and automation processes.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading IT system upgrades and implementations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative IT team.

Desirable Skills & Certifications

  • Professional IT certifications (MCSE, CCNA, MCP, PRINCE2).
  • Experience in an NHS or healthcare IT environment.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server, clustering, and reporting tools like SCOM.
  • Understanding of ITIL service management principles.
  • Welsh language skills (desirable but not essential).

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work as part of an on-call rota for out-of-hours support.
  • Independent mobility to travel between health board sites.
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours when necessary for system maintenance and upgrades.
