Job Summary
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is seeking a Mental Health Practitioner to join its CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) team within the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH). This role involves working with children and young people (up to 18 years old) experiencing complex emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The successful candidate will assess, treat, and discharge young people, ensuring effective communication between patients, carers, healthcare professionals, and external agencies. The role is based at Central Manchester Core CAMHS and is a maternity cover position.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a defined caseload, conducting assessments, interventions, and discharge planning
- Provide therapeutic interventions aligned with NICE guidelines
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams to coordinate care and ensure the best patient outcomes
- Assess complex mental health needs and levels of risk, including self-harm and safeguarding
- Promote patient-centred involvement in care planning
- Ensure compliance with clinical governance policies and evidence-based practices
Qualifications
Essential:
- A recognised qualification in a relevant field:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
- Registered Sick Children’s Nurse (RSCN)
- Registered Nurse in Mental Health (RNMH)
- CQSW/DipSW or equivalent
- NMC, HCPC, or SWE registration
Desirable:
- Qualifications in Psychological Therapies (e.g., CBT, SFT, IPT)
- Mentorship course (ENB998 or equivalent)
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Knowledge of child mental health and relevant legislation
- Ability to assess, formulate, and manage care plans effectively
- Experience in risk assessment and safeguarding
- Ability to work independently while receiving clinical and management supervision
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals with complex mental health needs
Desirable:
- Experience in CAMHS or community mental health settings
- Experience providing interventions for children, young people, and their families
- Experience in training delivery, research, and IT competency
Other Requirements
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check required
- Must comply with UK Skilled Worker Visa requirements, including criminal record checks from previous countries of residence
