Job Summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Children’s Nursing Associate to join its state-of-the-art Children’s Emergency Department and Observation Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, providing high-quality, patient-focused care to children and young people.

This role is ideal for a registered nursing associate looking to develop their clinical, A&E, and leadership skills. You will work within a supportive and friendly team, with guidance from the Children’s Practice Development Nurse to support your orientation and ongoing professional development.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to an allocated group of children or young people.
  • Perform patient observations and report abnormal results to the nurse in charge or supervisor.
  • Promote and maintain a safe and secure environment for children, young people, and their families.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and their families.
  • Ensure all patient care documentation is completed accurately and in line with NMC record-keeping standards.
  • Communicate with patients and families about their care, answering queries and signposting as needed.
  • Administer medication within scope of professional practice and as per the treatment plan.
  • Maintain confidentiality about the child/young person’s admission and treatment.
  • Be fully aware of the safety precautions and proper handling of equipment used in the department.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Nursing Associate Level 5 Foundation Degree
  • NMC Registration

Experience:

  • Understanding of the scope of the Nursing Associate role within the team and organisation.
  • Knowledge of NMC professional standards and The Code.
  • Ability to recognise when to escalate issues to senior care professionals.
  • Awareness of procedures and treatment plans.
  • Understanding of NMC revalidation requirements.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to learn new skills and knowledge.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage a group of patients and prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
  • Basic report writing skills.
  • Proficient in safe and effective medication administration following national and local policies.
  • Competence in drug dose calculations.
  • Ability to teach and support less qualified carers/learners.
  • Basic computer and keyboard skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to engage in reflective practice and clinical supervision.
  • Adaptability, enthusiasm, and conscientiousness.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.

Desirable:

  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Experience in integrated care delivery.
