Job Summary

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dynamic and hardworking Cancer Care Coordinator to join its busy Dermatology Department.

The primary role of the Cancer Pathway Coordinator is to serve as a central point of contact for patients on a suspected cancer pathway. The post-holder will ensure patient-centered care, facilitate a seamless pathway, and work to provide a personalized and supportive experience for individuals undergoing diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within Dermatology and the wider Cancer Team to facilitate efficient cancer pathway implementation.
  • Ensure compliance with the 28-Day Faster Diagnosis Standard.
  • Support patients from the beginning of the pathway until definitive diagnosis (whether cancerous or not).
  • Maintain effective communication with clinical and administrative staff to ensure timely diagnostic tests and skin surgeries.
  • Identify and resolve barriers to care, minimizing delays in the patient journey.
  • Work flexibly and responsively to overcome bottlenecks in the Dermatology department.

Person Specification

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a hospital setting as a Healthcare Assistant, Therapy Assistant, or equivalent.
  • Completion of mandatory statutory training.
  • Experience working within a Dermatology setting.
  • Completion of a Breaking Bad News course.
  • Experience conducting holistic needs assessments.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team within a health or social care setting.
  • Prior experience in Cancer Services.
  • Evidence of service improvement involvement (e.g., being a champion or link person in a specific area).
  • Certification in Breaking Bad News.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • GCSEs (Grade C or above) in English and Maths, or equivalent.

Personal Attributes & Skills

Essential

  • Basic IT skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to overcome barriers to communication.
  • Ability to follow protocols and problem-solve independently.
  • Work autonomously without direct supervision.
  • Prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Compassionate, friendly, and non-judgmental approach when handling sensitive issues.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Reliable, honest, and professional.
  • Commitment to guided and self-directed study over 18 months.

Desirable Skills

  • Advanced IT skills, including spreadsheets, PowerPoint, or an ECDL qualification (or willingness to undertake further training).
  • Experience with ICE, Zillion, Medisec, and InfoFlex systems.

Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check

This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as it falls under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
