Job Summary
Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Point of Care Testing (POCT) Assistant Practitioner to support its POCT section within Pathology.
The POCT team assists clinical staff across the hospital and community settings, ensuring the maintenance, troubleshooting, training, and quality assurance of POCT equipment. This is a varied and dynamic role, ideal for an enthusiastic candidate eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist the POCT Manager with all POCT-related tasks.
- Organize and deliver training to Harrogate and District NHS staff (both on-site and off-site) on proper POCT equipment usage.
- Ensure training standards comply with UKAS accreditation requirements and maintain up-to-date training records (including Excel data management).
- Monitor POCT stock levels.
- Perform quality assurance procedures, including internal quality control and external quality assessments.
- Troubleshoot instrument errors, log issues, and conduct necessary investigations.
- Update POCT documentation via Qpulse.
- Enter patient results into the Hospital Information System (HIS) via Lab Centre.
- Participate regularly in audit procedures.
- Travel to community locations within the Harrogate area (valid UK driving license and access to a car required).
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Level 3 diploma in Healthcare Science, Administration, Academic Study, or Information Technology (or equivalent qualification/experience).
- GCSEs (Grade C / 4 or above) in English and Maths, or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting.
- Experience conducting audits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to off-site locations.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- IBMS Level 1 Biomedical Science Support Staff Certificate of Achievement.
- Previous experience in Pathology or Point of Care Testing.
Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, as it falls under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
