Requirements
- Honours degree in bioinformatics, computer science, health informatics, or a biological discipline with computing experience
- Experience with next-generation sequencing data
- Solid programming skills and a working knowledge of web development technologies
- Good grasp of molecular biology, human genetics, and genome analysis tools
- Ability to communicate technical insights clearly and effectively
- Comfortable working in multidisciplinary healthcare teams
Salary Details
The role pays between £37,898 and £45,637 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
About the Role
This is your chance to be part of something bigger. As a Bioinformatician, you’ll dive into structural variant (SV) analysis and bring your bioinformatics skills to life in real clinical pathways. Working across both AWMGS and Cardiff University, your job is to build and refine pipelines for genomic diagnostics that matter. You’ll play a hands-on role in shaping how genome sequencing transforms healthcare in Wales.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and build bioinformatics pipelines to support SV analysis
- Analyse whole genome and exome sequencing data
- Support the integration of structural variant analysis into NHS diagnostics
- Collaborate with researchers and clinical teams to overcome real-time analytical challenges
- Stay current with genomic technologies and innovate where needed
- Contribute to national and regional genomics strategy initiatives
