Requirements

  • Foundation degree in assisting professional practice or equivalent
  • Previous acute care experience – preferably in a hospital or fast-paced setting
  • BOA Casting Qualification or willingness to obtain one
  • Skilled in cast application, removal, and modification
  • Basic IT skills – comfortable using PAS, email, and hospital intranet
  • Wound care awareness and readiness to spot safeguarding issues

Salary Details

This is a full-time post, paying £29,970 – £36,483 per year. Once the BOA Casting Course is complete, the post holder moves into a Band 5 Registered Professional role with corresponding salary adjustment.

About the Role

This trainee plaster technician job isn’t your average support role. It’s a chance to step directly into a training-led route toward becoming a registered plaster technician. While based mainly at the Royal site, the role involves active rotation through Royal, Broadgreen, and Aintree Hospitals, giving the post holder rich exposure across outpatient and acute settings.

It’s hands-on, practical, and people-first. The post holder will assist in applying, modifying, and removing a range of casts, providing tailored care to patients in emergency, inpatient, and outpatient settings. When not in the plaster room, they’ll work as an Assistant Practitioner / HCA, keeping their skills sharp and supporting the clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply and remove a wide range of casts and braces for patients
  • Support clinics as an HCA when not assigned to the plaster room
  • Share casting knowledge with junior doctors and staff
  • Maintain wound care awareness and safeguarding vigilance
  • Work closely with AHPs and medical staff for seamless patient care
  • Uphold high standards in line with Trust protocols
  • Participate in care planning and clinical audits
