Requirements

  • HCPC Registration (or equivalent) in Radiography or Health Science
  • BSc or Diploma in Radiography or related field
  • Able to show evidence of Ultrasound department shadowing
  • Strong teamwork and independent working skills
  • Proven organisational and patient care strengths
  • Cool head under pressure and solid communication skills

Salary Details

Starting at £37,338, progressing up to £44,962 based on NHS Band 6 pay structure. This is a paid role during training.

About the Role

This isn’t just training. This is a springboard. Over 12 months, you’ll get hands-on ultrasound training in General Medical and Gynaecological settings, while studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Ultrasound. Come October 2025, you’ll start your academic journey. By the end, if successful, you’ll qualify as an Advanced Practitioner Sonographer—with a guaranteed post for two years within the Trust.

You’ll rotate through several hospitals under OUH, gaining exposure to varied clinical scenarios. Think beyond scanning—you’ll learn to report independently, manage workflow, and eventually coordinate departmental operations. You’ll be saving lives with every click of that probe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform independent ultrasound scans in General Medical and Gynaecology
  • Interpret and deliver diagnostic reports
  • Follow all OUH guidelines and policies
  • Rotate across multiple hospitals to expand your clinical range
  • Participate in future 7-day service models
  • Support day-to-day planning and coordination when needed
  • Work closely with other professionals in a high-quality, patient-first service
