Requirements
- A relevant undergraduate degree or professional qualification OR A-levels with vocational qualifications
- At least 12 months of clinical experience with adults in mental health settings OR 3 years part-time voluntary experience
- Excellent communication skills in English, written and spoken
- Willingness to travel to Birmingham for academic assessments and study
- Confident using IT tools like Word, Excel, and digital communication platforms
- Demonstrated ability to stay positive under pressure, manage your own time, and support others
- Passionate about delivering supportive care and building strong patient relationships
- For non-native English speakers, a valid TOEFL or IELTS score meeting university standards
Salary Details
This is a full-time training post offering £26,530 to £29,114 annually. Upon qualification, you’ll step into a permanent practitioner role within the trust.
About the Role
This role gives you a real shot at becoming a qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner through a fully funded academic route while working in primary care mental health. Starting in Autumn 2025, you’ll train to deliver low intensity psychological interventions, helping adults manage mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Your learning will come alive through real conversations, guided self-help, and digital therapies. Alongside your studies, you’ll shadow and work with senior colleagues, learning the ropes and applying CBT-informed strategies that make a meaningful difference.
You’ll blend theory and practice across study days at the University of Birmingham, supervised clinical work in Hereford, and remote learning. It’s all designed to stretch your mind, grow your confidence, and deepen your impact on patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out screening assessments to ensure service users are matched with the right care
- Deliver Step 2 CBT-based interventions across telephone, digital, one-to-one, or group formats
- Work closely with senior PWPs for supervision, development, and reflection
- Keep accurate case records and reports that reflect your interventions
- Support patient recovery by applying evidence-based low intensity approaches
- Collaborate with university tutors and NHS colleagues to meet academic and clinical goals
- Take part in service improvement and outreach efforts across the local community
