Requirements
- HCPC registration with at least one year of post-registration experience
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in progress or completed
- Strong lab background in haematology or blood transfusion
- Excellent communication and decision-making under pressure
- Confident using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to interpret diagnostic results accurately
- Willingness to rotate between sites as service demands

The role offers a banded salary between 37,338 and 44,962 depending on experience.
About the Role
You’ll be joining a dedicated Blood Sciences department that rotates staff across Haematology and Blood Transfusion, giving you the chance to deepen your expertise. Once fully trained, you’ll operate as an autonomous practitioner in a 24/7 setting, supporting emergency and routine cases alike. The lab is equipped with cutting-edge systems for accurate diagnostics, including flow cytometry, capillary electrophoresis, and advanced transfusion platforms.
Your day-to-day work won’t just be about running tests. You’ll be making clinical decisions that save lives, identifying complex antibodies, verifying safe transfusion protocols, and helping to diagnose blood disorders. This is impactful work that supports patients at some of their most vulnerable moments.
Key Responsibilities
- Rotate through Haematology and Blood Transfusion labs to support service delivery
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and apply specialist diagnostic methods
- Authorise results for clinical use and explain them clearly
- Perform safe and accurate blood grouping and crossmatching
- Participate in quality control and assurance procedures
- Deliver out-of-hours support as part of a 24/7 rota
- Guide junior staff and contribute to training as needed
