Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs A* to C including English, Maths and Science (grades 9-4) or equivalent

Salary Details

This is an Annex 21 Band 4 training role. You’ll start at 70 percent of the full Band 4 salary and progress to 75 percent after 12 months. That means steady growth while you’re training.

About the Role

This 24-month training post is your launchpad into a growing and vital profession. As a pre-registration pharmacy technician, you’ll rotate through key areas in hospital pharmacy services. Expect hands-on experience in inpatient and outpatient dispensing, supply chain and purchasing, and real-time patient support on hospital wards. You’ll be trained to handle medicines safely and lead small teams that ensure patients receive the right treatment, at the right time. It’s a role where attention to detail, teamwork, and heart all matter.

This is a structured, supportive training path designed to help you register as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC. You’ll gain the real-world skills employers look for and the confidence to move straight into full-time technician roles upon completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense medicines for inpatients and outpatients with care and precision
  • Rotate through purchasing and supply departments, learning inventory and procurement
  • Support ward-based services by working directly with clinical teams
  • Follow regulated pharmacy procedures to ensure safety and consistency
  • Use pharmacy systems to log, manage, and report medication data accurately
  • Work with and learn from senior technicians, pharmacists, and trainers
  • Participate actively in a team committed to learning and patient safety
