Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum five (5) years of plan check experience
- Municipal experience
- California PE License or Architect License (or can be obtained within one year)
- ICC Plans Examiner Certification
- Thorough knowledge of building codes
- Excellent oral & written communication skills
Responsibilities:
- Examines plans and specifications for buildings and structures for completeness and conformity with all code requirements
- Coordinates the review of plans with other public agencies and explains required corrections to permit applicants
- Authorizes the issuance of building permits for compliant plans and calculates fees
- Advises and assists architects, contractors, builders, and the general public with interpretation and application of building regulations
- Submits reports to jurisdictional Building Officials regarding workload, process statistics, and code interpretation issues
- Provides assistance at jurisdictional building counters, answering questions related to plans and permitting requirements
- Supervises a team of plans examiners and plan check engineers
