Job Overview
A new Band 3 Breast Unit Assistant position is available within the Breast Team at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds. This role supports the delivery of high-quality care in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on patients across the West Suffolk area. The successful candidate will contribute to enhancing healthcare services and promoting positive clinical outcomes.
Main Duties
Assist in routine patient care activities, including setting up and assisting with interventional procedures, preparing sterile equipment, and monitoring patients during procedures.
Provide support and guidance to imaging assistants.
Effectively communicate with care team members, patients, and families.
Participate in training, competency development, and workforce support activities.
Support service development initiatives and maintain a safe, clean clinical environment.
Work collaboratively with nursing and imaging staff to provide full assistant coverage for clinics and procedures.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 Care/Health qualification or equivalent experience.
Care Certificate.
GCSE Mathematics and English (grade C/4 or above).
Proficiency in IT skills.
Essential Experience
Recent experience in healthcare.
Awareness of maintaining a safe and clean clinical environment.
Essential Skills and Abilities
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure and follow guidelines.
Accurate documentation and IT proficiency.
Ability to recognize patient deterioration and escalate appropriately.
Desirable Skills
Previous experience in a Breast Unit or Radiology Unit.
Competence in cannulation, venepuncture, or electronic care systems.
Personal Qualities
Professional attitude with a team-oriented and flexible approach.
Ability to prioritize tasks and use initiative while recognizing limitations.
