Job Description
The Huggett Suite, a bespoke stroke unit with six acute beds and 25 rehabilitation beds, specializes in acute stroke care and rehabilitation. This unit fosters collaboration with a multidisciplinary team comprising stroke clinicians, clinical nurse specialists, advanced care practitioners, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and dieticians.
The Clinical Leader role demands exceptional leadership and communication skills to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Responsibilities include daily workload management, supporting team members, and engaging with patients and their families during board rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. Candidates will be supported through training and development to enhance their nursing and delegation skills.

Working Environment
The trust operates from three main hospitals:
- Furness General Hospital (FGH) – Full emergency departments and consultant-led services.
- Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) – Comprehensive general hospital services.
- Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) – Planned care and urgent treatment services.
Additional services include community healthcare facilities offering diagnostics, therapies, and outreach services. The aim is to help individuals remain independent and manage their health effectively.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Minimum 12 months of Band 5 experience.
- Registered Nurse qualification or equivalent.
- Clinical skills in venepuncture and cannulation.
- Awareness of governance and patient safety in stroke care.
- Understanding of the stroke care pathway from admission to discharge.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with stroke patients.
- Evidence of leadership experience or qualification.
- Familiarity with multidisciplinary team (MDT) working.
- Previous experience in managing staff and rosters.
