Job Overview
Clinical Support Workers for the Community Liver Health Checks programme contribute to an innovative pilot project designed to provide community screening for cirrhosis in hard-to-reach groups. This initiative focuses on individuals using local alcohol and drug services, offering screening for cirrhosis and interventions aimed at improving liver health. The programme includes support for screening attendance and direct-to-patient incentives to encourage participation.

The role involves collaboration with the Hepatology Service at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) and the Infectious Diseases Outreach Service at community sites. The community outreach work is strategically coordinated by the Greater Manchester Hepatitis C Operational Delivery Network (ODN).

Main Duties of the Job
The position is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary and operates in conjunction with the Operational Delivery Network for Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire.

Key responsibilities include performing blood tests, conducting fibroscans (a non-invasive ultrasound to assess liver health; full training will be provided), delivering results, and engaging patients with cirrhosis in preventive healthcare. The role encourages attendance for further hospital screening and includes providing health promotion advice.

Collaboration with partners in drug services, probation services, homeless services, and primary care is integral to the role, as well as engagement with existing peer support programmes within these organisations and the voluntary sector.
