Dental laboratory assistant jobs are open for highly motivated individuals to play important roles as part of a professional team committed to providing a range of high-quality technical work for the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics. Strong manual dexterity and the ability to follow precise instructions with a high level of concentration are essential. Applicants should have good GCSE grades, with at least four grades A-C/4-7. The role involves assisting in various aspects of dental technology, with a focus on the preparation of both digital and stone dental casts. Effective communication skills, a good telephone manner, and the ability to manage one’s workload are required. The role incorporates digital workflows using Excel spreadsheets and CAD packages, involving data input and analysis. Full in-house training will be provided, and opportunities to undertake advanced qualifications may arise.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist Dental Care Professionals in the construction of dental and oral maxillofacial appliances.
  • Construct both digital and plaster cast anatomical models.
  • Perform technical process work such as trimming, polishing, repairing, and processing appliances.
  • Assist in the construction of dental appliances under the supervision of qualified staff.
  • Perform administrative duties, including logging work onto digital records, processing paperwork, and managing prescription sheets.
  • Maintain the laboratory and its equipment, ensuring workstations are clean and organized.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Essential criteria: Good hand/eye coordination and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Desirable criteria: Knowledge of model-making processes, laboratory processes, dental processes, and CAD/CAM.

Personal Attributes

  • Desirable criteria: Experience in a dental laboratory and understanding of CAD/CAM.
