The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions proudly presents the Scholarship of Excellence Program, aimed at recognizing and supporting exceptional students within the realm of health professions. Established with the vision to celebrate academic excellence and nurture future leaders in the healthcare sector, this scholarship holds a prestigious position among students and institutions alike.
Purpose:
The core objective of the Scholarship of Excellence Program is to acknowledge and reward students who exhibit remarkable dedication and achievement in their academic pursuits within health professions. Moreover, it aims to identify individuals with the potential to lead and innovate in various capacities within the healthcare field. Recipients of this esteemed scholarship will not only receive a financial award of $1,000 but will also be designated as Elwood Scholars, a title bestowed upon the most outstanding recipient, starting from 2014.
Qualifications:
To be considered eligible for the ASAHP Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment in a college or school affiliated with ASAHP.
- Successful completion of at least one term at the institution.
- Pursuit of a career entry-level, degree-granting program within the health professions, excluding nursing, public health, psychology, or MOD-VOPP disciplines.
- Enrollment in any degree level (associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral).
- Demonstrated financial need is not a determining factor for eligibility.
Nomination Process:
The nomination process follows a structured approach:
- Each eligible institution may nominate one candidate for each scholarship round.
- A comprehensive nomination package includes:
- Completed “ASAHP Scholarship Nomination Form”
- Endorsed letter by the ASAHP Institutional Representative highlighting the candidate’s qualities.
- Current nominee’s resumé/CV.
- A concise essay (not exceeding 200 words) by the nominee, explaining their choice of health profession and intended contributions to community health.
Important Dates:
The deadline for submissions for this year’s scholarship is Friday, June 7. Nomination packets must be submitted via the online form by 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on June 7.
Selection Process:
A meticulous selection process is undertaken to identify deserving scholarship recipients. Upon receipt of applications, a distinguished panel comprising select ASAHP members will evaluate and determine the awardees.
Notification of Winners:
Winners will be notified through personalized letters signed by ASAHP’s President and Executive Director, which will be sent to the institutional representative. Alongside the letter, the scholarship check and a certificate will be provided, ensuring recognition of the recipient’s achievement. It is the responsibility of the institutional representative to ensure the winning student receives the award promptly.
Publicity:
The names and institutions of the scholarship winners will be featured in various publications of the Association. Additionally, institutions are encouraged to publicize the scholarship awards to celebrate the accomplishments of their students.
