Job Description

Large Government Organisation requires a Database Developer / Data Engineer to join their team in supporting a comprehensive data transformation and analytics enhancement programme. The successful candidate will work alongside analysts to generate insights and reports using Power BI, while collaborating with the IT department during their transition to MS Azure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain new Business Intelligence capabilities aligned with the organisation’s analytics strategy and vision.
  • Provide the analytical community with access to data sources, and build and maintain semantic access layers.
  • Facilitate data transformation from SAP Business Objects to MS Power BI, with a future focus on adopting the MS Stack and transitioning to Azure Cloud.
  • Utilize SSIS/ETL tools to create access to new data sets for analytics in Power BI.
  • Capture and translate business requirements into specifications, implementing appropriate data access for report and dashboard creation by analysts.
  • Adhere to IT change processes, acting as a liaison between IT and Strategy, Planning, and Insight.
  • Develop and configure Business Objects Universes, including appropriate development and testing approaches.
  • Develop and configure Power BI datasets and workspaces.
  • Collaborate to document domain knowledge of key systems to maximize data value.
  • Work with the Data Management function to understand and resolve data quality issues.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong understanding of Business Intelligence toolsets and their role in end-to-end data infrastructure.
  • Proficient in SQL, SSIS (or similar ETL tools), and Power BI.
  • Data literacy with development of domain knowledge.
  • Knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts.
  • Understanding of data integration issues, including validation and cleaning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of analytical processes, techniques, and skills.
  • Hands-on experience in developing BI tools and analytical products.
  • Experience in data warehousing solutions is advantageous.

Compensation

£35,000 – £40,000 per annum, including benefits.
