Requirements

  • Registered General Nurse qualification
  • Degree in Nursing or working towards one
  • Preparation of mentors or equivalent certification
  • 2 years’ experience at Band 5 in an acute care setting
  • Clinical skills including venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, IV drugs administration, and Immediate Life Support (ILS)
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct and Risk Management
  • Willingness to undertake further training in Leadership and Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and assist the Ward Manager in overseeing daily ward operations
  • Ensure staff competence for clinical practice procedures using the trust competency framework
  • Monitor performance and manage nursing staff in areas of responsibility
  • Maintain accurate staff records for annual leave, sickness, and absence
  • Represent the ward at Trust-wide forums and inter-agency meetings when required
  • Ensure the safe and effective use of all medical devices within the ward
  • Actively participate in and support Directorate initiatives
  • Provide specialist advice and support to peer group staff, patients, and relatives
  • Act as a clinical expert and positive role model for all staff
  • Contribute to the efficient discharge of patients by understanding discharge pathways and working closely with involved teams
