Devon County Council is looking for a dedicated Social Worker to join the Moor to Sea Community Health and Social Care Team on a part-time, permanent basis. This team-oriented role primarily focuses on supporting older adults, with occasional responsibilities for adults of working age. As a Social Worker, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safeguarding of the community.
In this role, a Social Worker is responsible for conducting Section 42 safeguarding inquiries, leading Mental Capacity Assessments, and managing Best Interest processes, including applications for community deprivations of liberty. A solid understanding of the Care Act and the ability to work from a strengths-based perspective to support individuals in achieving their goals is essential. Strong risk assessment and risk management skills are also crucial for this position.
As a Social Worker, you will collaborate with Social Care Assessors, occupational therapists, and colleagues from health and voluntary sectors in a multi-agency approach. The Moor to Sea area covers a large rural region, including South Dartmoor, Dartmouth, and Torbay, so the ability to drive and access to suitable transport is necessary. While the team is based at Totnes Hospital, Devon County Council’s agile working policy allows for flexibility, including working from home.
Support and development are key aspects of this role. Regular supervision, including group sessions for reflecting on practice and discussing key issues, is provided. A robust induction process ensures that every Social Worker is well-prepared for their responsibilities. The team prides itself on shared values, passion, and commitment to supporting individuals in finding their own solutions and recognizing their strengths.
The Social Worker position aligns with the national Professional Capability Framework (PCF) for Social Workers, offering a clear career pathway. This structure enables practitioners to reflect on their practice and development. Successful candidates will be assessed against PCF domains during the interview process and appointed to either the Social Worker (Grade F) or Experienced Social Worker (Grade G) level based on their experience, skills, and knowledge.
Devon County Council is committed to continuous professional development for its staff. Social Workers will receive excellent support and supervision, with regular opportunities for reflection and discussion of their practice. Benefits include 26 days of annual leave (rising to 31 days after five years), flexible working options, and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Devon offers a high quality of life, with top-performing schools, vibrant cities, and scenic countryside. For those considering relocation, support of up to £10,000 and visa sponsorship available, subject to conditions.
