An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Support Worker to join the Cancer team at Luton & Dunstable Hospital, part of the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role focuses on enhancing cancer care pathways and patient support. The Support Worker will play a vital role in providing operational support and coordinating care for cancer patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contact for cancer information and support.
  • Help patients navigate the health and social care system.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cancer survivorship initiatives.
  • Coordinate health and wellbeing clinics to promote patient independence and self-management.
  • Act as a single point of access for cancer patients, ensuring rapid re-entry into the system for those with urgent needs.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics (Grades A-C) or equivalent
  • Foundation degree level training or equivalent
  • NVQ4 or NVQ3 plus additional training to diploma level equivalent

Desirable:

  • Evidence of continued role development
  • Willingness to undertake Macmillan learning and development courses
  • Coaching or teaching qualification

Experience:

Essential:

  • Relevant health or social care experience at AFC Band 3 or equivalent
  • Experience in multi-professional working
  • Proficiency in data management
  • Strong communication skills
  • Understanding of person-centred care and the health and social care environment

Desirable:

  • Experience in coordinating a patient workload
  • Awareness of national cancer policies
  • Experience in coaching or teaching patients and carers

Skills:

Essential:

  • IT proficiency
  • Initiative and effective organizational skills
  • Good observation and practical problem-solving skills
  • Teamwork ability and self-motivation

Desirable:

  • European Computer Driving Licence or Equivalent
  • Phlebotomy skills
