Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of Band 3 Nursing Assistants to join the ward 21 team. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the successful candidates will assist the Ward/Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carers. The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties as delegated by a registered nurse.
Main Duties of the Job
The role will involve participating in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. Responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of patient care, particularly in pressure ulcer care, personal hygiene, toileting, and feeding, while reporting progress and concerns to the Registered Nurse (RN). The post holder will work collaboratively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. Skilled tasks will be undertaken with the support of the Registered Nurse. The post holder will proactively lead in delivering all aspects of basic patient care from admission to discharge and take a leading role in supporting the development of junior staff and the ward.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
- Promote effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team, taking steps to overcome communication difficulties.
- Contribute to the management of aggressive and abusive behaviour.
- Assist with bed making, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for new admissions and operation beds.
- Clear and clean vacated bed spaces, preparing them according to the ward/unit protocol.
- Ensure the adequate supply of linen bags and prepare used linen bags for collection by porters.
- Maintain a clear and safe environment in all areas.
- Dispose of clinical waste and sharps as per Trust policy.
- Follow the Trust policy and procedure for reporting clinical incidents.
- Provide support to visitors and patients, particularly those who may be distressed or bereaved.
- Care for patients’ property, including valuables, in accordance with Trust policy.
- Assist in the admission process by obtaining demographic details and social history from patients and visitors.
- Provide support to new and junior members of staff.
