Job Overview
This position is open exclusively to employees of North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC).

Band 3 Maternity Health Care Assistants are integral to ensuring the provision of safe and effective maternity care. Recent CQC inspections rated the Trust as ‘Good.’ Recruitment is underway to maintain high standards of care for women and babies across delivery suites, antenatal, and postnatal wards. The role operates on a 24/7 shift basis, including both day and night shifts.

Main Duties of the Job
Responsibilities include supporting midwives and providing personal care for women and babies. Specific tasks include:

  • Assisting mothers with baby feeding, nappy changing, and bathing.
  • Supporting mothers with personal hygiene after delivery under supervision.
  • Cleaning beds, trolleys, and rooms, and assisting with general housekeeping duties.
  • Escorting women to other departments and transferring postnatal women as required.
  • Reporting concerns or issues to midwives.
  • Participating in emergency skill drills for prompt emergency response.
  • Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of designated equipment.
  • Complying with infection prevention, safeguarding protocols, and ensuring care quality.

Qualifications

  • Essential: GCSE English and Math or equivalent, National Care Certificate or commitment to complete during induction, NVQ 2 in care or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable: NVQ 3 in care or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Desirable: Experience in caring roles, NHS duties, and handling babies.

Skills
