Job Summary

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a Nursery Assistant to join the Rainbow Nursery, which provides workplace childcare for staff members. The nursery offers full day care for up to 62 children aged between 6 months and 8 years. The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated team, ensuring that children receive the highest quality of care in a safe, stimulating, and educational environment.

The role will involve planning educational activities for the children, ensuring child-to-staff ratios are maintained, and adhering to Ofsted and Trust policies. The candidate will also assist in setting up rooms with toys, arranging furniture, and providing appropriate play opportunities. Excellent communication with both the children and their parents is crucial, as the role involves providing detailed feedback on each child’s day to parents and carers.

This part-time role offers a flexible working pattern of 30 hours per week, typically 7.5 hours per day across 4 days, allowing for a work-life balance while contributing to the nursery’s high standards of childcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the management team in delivering high-quality childcare and education in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate educational activities appropriate for children aged 4 months to 8 years, following the national framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Set up rooms with toys and furniture, ensuring children can access and engage with them safely.
  • Provide positive interaction with children, supporting their learning and development through play.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers, providing detailed feedback on their child’s day and progress.
  • Ensure that child-to-staff ratios are maintained at all times, adhering to Ofsted and Trust policies.
  • Follow the nursery’s behaviour management procedures, ensuring a positive and respectful environment for all children.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the nursery environment, ensuring toys and equipment are regularly cleaned and well-maintained.

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 in Childcare and Education (minimum).
  • Previous experience working with children under 5 years old.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with both children and adults.
  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and its application in a childcare setting.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the nursery.

Desirable Experience

  • NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education.
  • Experience working with babies and children with additional needs.
  • Experience working in holiday clubs or similar childcare settings.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. As such, a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to ensure the safety of the children in the nursery.
