Role Overview
Homerton Healthcare is seeking a dynamic and motivated Nutritional Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the gastroenterology and nutrition team. This role provides specialist care for patients requiring nutrition support, including oral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition. As an integral member of the team, the postholder will assist gastroenterology consultants, dietitians, and nursing staff in delivering safe and effective care, supporting nutrition support team meetings, and assisting with patient discharges.
This is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to help develop and expand the nutrition service, becoming a key player in shaping the delivery of high-quality care within the Homerton family.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Dietitians to develop the service, supporting patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and clinical protocols related to nutrition support (e.g., parenteral/enteral nutrition, central line catheter management).
- Participate in Nutrition MDT meetings, contributing to treatment planning and referral decisions.
- Act as a role model in expert nursing practice, supporting the delivery of direct care for patients requiring nutritional support.
- Provide leadership and guidance to junior nursing staff and promote best practices in nutrition care.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Current NMC registration
- Registered General Nurse with a degree or equivalent education
- Specialist post-graduate qualifications or equivalent experience in nutrition
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to work on own initiative
- Experience in managing feeding systems and providing nutritional care
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Homerton’s Trust values
Desirable Criteria
- Relevant post-graduate training in nutritional care
