Job Overview
The Research Participation and Inclusion Facilitator is responsible for providing professional, efficient, and effective support for public engagement and inclusion activities across the South West Central region of the NIHR Research Delivery Network (RDN). This role contributes to the NIHR RDN’s mission to enable a world-class health and care research system that delivers high-quality, inclusive, and accessible research to improve health and care outcomes.
The position is hosted by the NIHR South West Central Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN), under the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate conversations with public and community groups, including underserved communities.
- Engage with members of the public using online and in-person facilitation methods to promote inclusion.
- Act as the first point of contact for key stakeholders, including the public.
- Regularly handle complex and sensitive information.
- Coordinate meetings, facilitate events, and manage wider public engagement and inclusion activities.
- Collect, analyze, and report feedback from public engagement activities.
- Administer reward and recognition payments for participation in engagement initiatives.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Education
- Essential: Postgraduate qualification (e.g., Post Graduate Diploma) in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
- Desirable: Facilitation training/qualification; experience in data entry and analysis.
Knowledge and Experience
- Essential:
- Skilled facilitator with experience in group facilitation, co-design, and co-production methodologies.
- Experience in community engagement, particularly with underserved communities, in a health research or services context.
- Knowledge of barriers to research participation among underserved populations.
- Strong project management skills, report writing experience, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Desirable: Familiarity with data platforms such as NIHR Online Data Platform (ODP).
Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
- Expertise in meeting coordination and administrative tasks, including minute-taking and stakeholder communication.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with experience in presenting to diverse audiences.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to convey complex information effectively.
