Job Overview

The Data and Analytics Division aims to become the premier provider of data services for health and social care in England. The division creates innovative, high-quality data products and services to empower customers with the knowledge and tools needed to achieve optimal outcomes for citizens.

Main Duties of the Job

The Strategic Analysis team addresses critical NHS strategic challenges, improving patient outcomes. It comprises technical experts across disciplines, including economics, behavioral science, and other analytical fields.

Operating as an in-house consultancy, the team collaborates with policy and program teams to translate strategies into measurable impact. Methods include econometric modeling, advanced quantitative analysis, experimental approaches, and qualitative research. Key projects include modeling NHS productivity drivers, assessing health-employment linkages, enhancing cancer screening programs, and evaluating economies of scale.

The team seeks an individual with a strong record in applying diverse frameworks to analyze and resolve strategic issues. Two permanent Band 7 roles are available, including this role for a general analyst, requiring strategic and advanced analytical expertise.

Contractual office-based colleagues are expected to spend approximately 40% of their time working in person. Staff recruited externally to the NHS are typically appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

  • Master’s degree in economics, statistics, operational research, social research, mathematics, or a related subject, or equivalent experience in a specialized analytical area.

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong written and presentation skills, effectively communicating concepts to diverse audiences, including patients, the public, and healthcare professionals.
  • Proven ability to develop self and share specialist knowledge with others.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to address complex strategic issues from conflicting sources.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience working as an analyst in professional groupings such as economics, statistics, operational research, or social research.
