Job Overview

Applications are invited for a senior neonatal nurse to join the team at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT). The ideal candidate will possess the passion, skills, and knowledge to provide leadership on the neonatal unit while delivering individualized nursing care and family-integrated care. This role requires the ability to energize, inspire, and empower families and staff in a level two neonatal unit.

Main Duties

  • Leading the neonatal team and supporting staff in providing high-quality care.
  • Assessing and managing neonatal emergencies effectively.
  • Offering support and education to peers and junior staff, ensuring a safe and effective environment.
  • Delivering all aspects of family-integrated care while working with parents as partners in care.
  • Assisting in the management and organization of nursing activities within the ward or department.

Working Environment

The Neonatal Unit at Calderdale is a level two unit with 20 cots, including three ICU, three HDU, and 14 Special Care. The unit is dedicated to providing compassionate care for the neonatal population and their families, ensuring a friendly and collaborative working environment.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • Registration with NMC (RGN/RSCN/RN/RM).
  • ENB 405 or equivalent.
  • Neonatal Life Support (NLS) certification.
  • ENB 998 or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake the ENP course within an agreed timeframe.

Knowledge, Experience, and Expertise (Essential):

  • Significant experience at Band 5 following QIS qualification.
  • Experience in promoting innovation and service improvement.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution, change management, and service provision within a neonatal network.

Skills and Competencies (Essential):

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Competence in motivating others and maintaining a calm, caring demeanor.
  • Proficiency in budgetary management.
