Main Duties of the Job
The Band 5 Nurse role includes a comprehensive development package encompassing:

  • A supernumerary period.
  • Access to training, education, and a Preceptorship program.
  • Support from a dedicated departmental education team.
    Career development opportunities are provided, including working towards RCN Level 1 and Level 2 competencies.
    Nurses will gain experience across all areas of the Emergency Department at the Aintree site, which serves as the region’s Major Trauma Centre.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and carers.
  • Prioritize nursing duties, plan patient care, and report changes to the nurse in charge.
  • Record nursing activities in line with NMC and Trust guidelines.
  • Enhance patient care quality through contributions to Essence of Care and clinical benchmarking.
  • Respect patient customs, values, and spiritual beliefs.
  • Provide information and support to patients and carers, ensuring effective communication about patient conditions.
  • Assist with the safe administration of drugs.
  • Develop clinical knowledge for managing acutely ill patients through planned and unplanned admissions.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current UK NMC registration.
  • Diploma in Nursing.
    Desirable
  • Mentorship/teaching qualification.
  • Post-registration qualification in a relevant specialty.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Post-registration experience with Band 5 foundation gateway competencies.
  • Experience in a clinical setting.
  • Evidence of supporting clinical learning environments and working with students.
