Job Overview
An exciting opportunity is available for a Band 5 nurse to join the Acute Out-patient Parental Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Service as part of the Virtual Ward/Hospital at Home Project at University Hospitals Dorset. The role requires flexible working between acute sites and patients’ homes to administer intravenous antimicrobials. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible, with a focus on providing patient-centred care.
As this project continues to develop, the post holder will play a key role in expanding patient pathways. This team is currently based within the Treatment and Investigation Unit (TIU), and the role involves collaboration with the TIU team.
Base Locations: Poole and Bournemouth

- Ensure the nursing care plan is followed and updated each shift.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
- Provide specialist knowledge and care to all OPAT patients, with support and guidance as needed.
- Act as a primary point of contact for patients and members of the multi-professional OPAT team.
- Undertake various duties to ensure the effective delivery of care, providing advice and ongoing support to patients.
- Participate in the assessment, development, and evaluation of care programmes, ensuring high-quality care for patients and their families.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure the effective delivery of care across both hospital and community settings.

Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
- Advanced Diploma/Degree in adult health nursing studies
- NMC Registered Nurse
Desirable Criteria:
- Teaching Qualification
Technical Skills Competencies
Essential Criteria:
- IV medication administration
- Venepuncture
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience with PICC lines and midlines
Knowledge
Essential Criteria:
- Ability to demonstrate fundamental nursing skills, including infection control and IV therapy
- Understanding of OPAT functions
Desirable Criteria:
- Awareness of roles related to patient experience, quality, safety, and governance frameworks
Other Requirements
Essential Criteria:
- Use of own vehicle for transportation with a valid UK driving license
