Candidates must have substantial experience in a Band 3 NHS role or equivalent within clinical research. An in-depth understanding of clinical research processes, including ICH-GCP and research governance, is mandatory. Flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure are also required, with occasional weekend and evening work expected.
Key responsibilities include managing research studies from initiation to completion, ensuring effective communication across multidisciplinary teams, and fostering constructive relationships within and beyond the specialty. Active participation in local and national networking groups to develop expertise in the specialty is integral to the role.

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities
Clinical Research Practitioners (CRPs) play a pivotal role in the delivery of transformative clinical research. Working alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals, CRPs are responsible for ensuring the ethical, high-quality delivery of clinical research.
The Assistant Clinical Research Practitioner will support studies from setup through follow-up phases, manage single-site studies as required, and ensure data integrity for regulatory reporting. Responsibilities also include providing clinical support to trial participants by obtaining informed consent, collecting samples, performing tests, and maintaining study documentation in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
- Essential: Minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent.
- Desirable: Experience in a cardiac setting.
Skills
- Essential: Ability to perform ECGs, conduct phlebotomy, and record clinical data. Capability to deliver participant education sessions and provide instructions.
- Desirable: Knowledge of research processes.
Experience
- Essential: Significant experience in a Band 3 NHS role or equivalent in clinical research, including ICH, GCP, and research governance.
- Desirable: GCP/consent training.
Other Requirements Specific to the Role
- Essential: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, flexibility, assertiveness, professionalism, enthusiasm, and a desire to develop knowledge and skills.
