About the Role
This Assistant Practitioner role isn’t your everyday healthcare support gig. Based in C7W Elective Trauma & Orthopaedics Ward at the Royal Gwent Hospital, you’ll bridge the gap between Healthcare Support Workers and Registered Nurses.
It’s a hands‑on clinical role where you’ll perform vital interventions like observations, wound care, ECGs, and venepuncture. You’ll also supervise junior HCSWs and contribute to care planning.
The job suits someone who’s ready to step up, take initiative, and play a key role in delivering direct, compassionate care. You’ll be trusted to handle delegated nursing duties without constant supervision. And yes, the team’s genuinely collaborative. So if you’ve been waiting for the right mix of autonomy, support, and skill‑building? This might be your next move.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing care including wound care, point‑of‑care testing, and clinical observations
- Perform delegated clinical tasks like venepuncture, ECG, and cannulation
- Support care planning and maintain accurate patient records
- Supervise Band 2 and Band 3 HCSWs, guiding them in daily duties
- Attend case reviews and multidisciplinary meetings
- Work collaboratively while maintaining independent clinical judgment
Disclosure and Barring Service Check
This role is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.
Certificate of Sponsorship
Applications from job seekers who require current Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.
From 6 April 2017, Skilled Worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, have had to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) are also subject to this requirement.
Equal Opportunity Statement
They welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to promoting equality and diversity throughout the recruitment process.
