Requirements

  • A 2.1 or above in an Honours Degree in Psychology
  • Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Experience applying psychological theory in a clinical or healthcare setting
  • Solid research skills including statistical analysis and psychological methodology
  • Clear and empathetic communication, both written and verbal
  • Flexibility and resilience in high-pressure, emotionally intense environments

About the Role

This isn’t just another psychology assistant role. It’s an opening into the raw, real, and deeply human side of healthcare. You’ll be on the frontline with patients in critical care, assessing their psychological wellbeing, helping them manage trauma, and supporting their road to recovery. You’ll also play a key role in supporting staff wellbeing and contributing to service evaluation and audit.

Working across two units—general and neuro ICU—you’ll follow patients as they transition from life-threatening care back to the ward. It’s a role that blends science, heart, and real connection. You’ll collaborate within the rehabilitation team to reduce the long-term effects of Post Intensive Care Syndrome. Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out psychological assessments of ICU patients to support recovery
  • Deliver early interventions including psychoeducation and emotional support
  • Support ward-based staff and contribute to mental health and wellbeing initiatives
  • Collaborate with the Expert by Experience group to enrich service delivery
  • Help track and evaluate patient outcomes through audits and research
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to senior psychologists and healthcare teams
  • Support trauma-informed care across the critical care department
