Requirements

  • A BPS-accredited Psychology degree (GBC eligible)
  • Genuine interest in mental health and trauma-informed care
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite and writing clear records
  • Ability to manage your own workload and communicate professionally
  • Experience working with people with mental health needs
  • A willingness to grow within forensic or secure environments
  • Must be able to travel independently for work purposes

Salary Details

This full-time role offers a salary of £27,485 to £30,162 per year, aligned with NHS banding, depending on your experience.

About the Role

This Assistant Psychologist post is right in the thick of it. You’ll work in a supportive work environment surrounded by senior clinicians who genuinely care. Your day-to-day? You might be writing discharge reports, leading psychoeducational groups, supporting patients one-on-one, or bringing insights to multidisciplinary meetings. Whether it’s helping someone reduce self-harming behaviour or co-developing coping plans with staff, your input will matter.

The work is anchored in DBT, CBT and trauma-focused care, with patients who’ve often had a rough time. You’ll also support research, link with external agencies like substance misuse services, and deliver informal training. It’s a UK job opportunity with career growth embedded at every turn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based group work and one-to-one interventions under supervision
  • Support case formulations, risk assessments, and clinical documentation
  • Write clear, structured reports that feed into service user care plans
  • Attend and contribute meaningfully to MDT and referral discussions
  • Collaborate with teams inside and outside the prison to support continuity of care
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold data protection standards
  • Contribute to service audits, research or development projects
  • Support training delivery for non-clinical staff on psychological principles
