Job Overview

East London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an Associate Mental Health Practitioner to join a newly established crisis response service for North East London. This 24/7 service provides mental health crisis support via NHS 111, ensuring individuals in distress receive timely assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Answer calls from patients and carers experiencing mental health crises
  • Triage calls to ensure they are directed to the appropriate professional
  • Provide high-quality mental health crisis support via telephone
  • Meet key performance indicators for call response times
  • Conduct assessments, risk assessments, and formulate crisis safety plans under clinician guidance
  • Liaise with other professionals and agencies to ensure effective crisis intervention
  • Support smooth transitions between teams to provide seamless patient care
  • Utilize brief intervention techniques and conduct physical health checks (or be willing to train in these areas)
  • Work under supervision while adhering to Trust policies and procedures

Requirements

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • Level 2 numeracy and literacy skills
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mental health experience

Desirable:

  • Training in brief interventions and motivational interviewing (or willingness to undertake)
  • Suicide prevention training (or willingness to undertake)
  • Degree in Psychology or related field

Experience

Essential:

  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health needs
  • Strong listening, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Good organizational skills

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • IT literate with the ability to produce written documentation as required
    Desirable:
  • Ability to monitor physical health signs (e.g., vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure) or willingness to train in this area

Additional Information

  • Disclosure & Barring Service Check: Required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975
  • Sponsorship: Skilled Worker visa sponsorship available for eligible candidates
  • Criminal Record Certificate: Applicants must provide a criminal record certificate from countries where they have resided for 12+ months in the past 10 years (if applicable)
