Requirements

  • Lived experience of autism and mental health difficulties with recovery insight
  • Experience of using autism and mental health services such as talking therapies or inpatient care
  • Completed peer support training or willingness to complete shortly after starting
  • GCSEs or equivalent level in English and Maths or proven competency
  • Ability to share experiences positively, while respecting boundaries and confidentiality
  • Strong communication skills and problem-solving mindset

Salary Details

The salary range for this role is £32,199 to £34,876 per year.

About the Role

This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to make lived experience count. The Autism Peer Support Worker will join the Transforming Care in Autism team in Croydon, working closely with psychologists, autism specialists, and mental health professionals. The role is about bringing understanding, hope, and practical support to autistic individuals facing mental health challenges. By sharing experience safely, supporting staff and carers, and helping service users navigate treatment and community resources, this post creates real impact.

You’ll also be involved in co-designing and co-delivering training workshops for staff, carers, and service users, helping others see autism through a strengths-based lens. This position asks for compassion, creativity, and the courage to use personal experience to inspire change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use lived experience to inspire hope and show recovery is possible
  • Share examples of challenges and how they were overcome to support service users
  • Promote inclusion by recognising personal, cultural, and social strengths of others
  • Support understanding of autism and mental health services to aid treatment
  • Record and share information clearly to support team communication
  • Co-produce and co-deliver teaching, training, and service development projects
  • Signpost service users and carers to community or online resources
  • Challenge stigma and promote positive attitudes toward autism
