Requirements

  • Comfortable with standing for long periods and manual handling
  • Previous experience as an SSD Technician or working with washer disinfectors
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
  • Strong team player who’s reliable and punctual
  • Open to working across all areas including wash, load, unload, and distribution
  • Basic literacy and numeracy essential
  • Comfortable using digital systems for traceability
  • Physically fit enough for lifting, bending, crouching, and moving heavy stock

About the Role

Every clean instrument that reaches a surgical team starts with someone like you.

As a Decontamination Technician, you’ll be right at the heart of infection prevention. Working flexibly as part of the bank team, you’ll support the preparation, cleaning, sterilisation, and distribution of surgical devices across the NHS and private healthcare.

Whether you’re loading autoclaves, inspecting instruments, or handling traceability checks, your role will keep patients safe and procedures running on time. You’ll follow strict procedures, wear PPE, and play a crucial part in a fast-moving department that never sleeps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and disinfect reusable surgical instruments and endoscopes
  • Operate washer disinfectors and autoclaves as trained
  • Work across all production areas including washrooms and distribution
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times to maintain safety standards
  • Accurately follow traceability systems and log all processed items
  • Flag any quality or safety issues using the non-conformance system
  • Stay current with policies and training to keep standards high
  • Support colleagues and management by working efficiently and professionally
