Requirements

  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Science or completion of Grade A/STP Clinical Scientist programme
  • HCPC registration is a must
  • Previous work in an accredited Immunology lab
  • Familiarity with autoimmune, cellular, and serology diagnostic assays
  • Confident using flow cytometry and other standard techniques like ELISA
  • Comfortable with SOPs, document control, and Quality Management Systems
  • Strong data handling and close attention to detail
  • Good communication and a proactive mindset

Salary Details

You’ll start within the NHS Band 6 range: £35,964 to £43,780 per year, depending on experience.

About the Role

Here’s the real deal. As a Biomedical Scientist at GOSH, you’ll be smack in the middle of a lab where national-level diagnostics happen every day. From indirect immunofluorescence to cell proliferation assays, your days will be hands-on, purpose-driven, and anything but routine. The lab supports both local patients and national molecular diagnostics, so your work has serious reach.

You’ll support senior scientists, run essential tests on paediatric samples, and make sure the results are accurate, timely, and clinically valuable. They’re not just looking for someone to tick boxes—they want someone who’s eager to learn, adapt, and help push paediatric immunology forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run diagnostic tests like ELISA, Flow Cytometry, Allergy Testing, and Cell Culture
  • Follow SOPs while keeping safety and accuracy top of mind
  • Support senior staff and contribute to quality audits and UKAS documentation
  • Handle equipment maintenance and daily lab operations
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programmes
  • Keep stock and supplies ready—your team depends on it
  • Adapt to new lab methods and technologies with ease
