Job Overview

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides services to a population of 500,000 people across Northumberland and North Tyneside. The laboratory services are located at:

  • North Tyneside General Hospital
  • Wansbeck General Hospital
  • Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH), England’s first specialist emergency care hospital with 24/7 emergency consultants.

We are seeking a qualified, enthusiastic, and motivated Biomedical Scientist with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration. The ideal candidate should have a flexible approach to work, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as a registered Biomedical Scientist within the Haematology/Blood Transfusion Department.
  • Deliver high-quality diagnostic services to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust and General Practitioners.
  • Supervise, train, and develop Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
  • Ensure compliance with quality control, safety protocols, and laboratory regulations.
  • Contribute to coaching, mentoring, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive leadership culture within the Trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Professional Registration

Essential:

  • HCPC State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or an equivalent degree in Biomedical Science.

Desirable:

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Experience & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices.
  • Understanding of quality improvement tools, techniques, and methods.

Additional Requirements

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards in laboratory practices.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
