Requirements
- HCPC Registration in Biomedical Science
- IBMS-accredited degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent
- Experience in POCT settings post-registration
- IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry or near completion
- Hands-on Biochemistry practice with proven skills across manual, automated, and semi-automated testing
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfort with laboratory IT systems and platforms like LIMS, middleware, Excel, and Word
- Keen understanding of quality systems in line with ISO/UKAS standards
Salary Details
This role is open at Band 5 or Band 6 depending on qualifications. For those working towards their IBMS Specialist Portfolio, appointments can be made at Band 5 with structured support to move up.
About the Role
At the heart of this role is meaningful diagnostic work. The successful candidate will join the dynamic POCT Biochemistry team, covering four fully connected sites, with a home base at Oxford Road Campus. They’ll handle a mix of routine and specialist clinical chemistry tasks that directly support patient care. Using a range of advanced testing methods, they’ll validate results, advise clinical teams, and uphold standards in accordance with ISO 15189. The post isn’t just technical – it’s people-focused. They’ll mentor newer staff, optimise workflows, and play an active role in shaping service improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out POCT and Biochemistry testing across multiple platforms
- Use scientific judgment to validate, interpret, and report results
- Support and train junior staff and peers across sites
- Uphold quality assurance procedures and compliance with ISO 15189
- Maintain and troubleshoot complex laboratory instruments
- Contribute to audits, SOP updates, and laboratory improvement initiatives
- Communicate with clinicians to support patient management decisions
