Requirements

• A minimum second-class bachelor’s degree or equivalent overseas qualification.
• Capacity to complete postgraduate-level academic work.
• Two years’ experience supporting children, young people, or families in professional or voluntary roles.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child development principles.
• Effective communication with young children and parents from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to organise workload, use supervision reflectively, and follow policy.
• For international candidates, IELTS (Level: GOOD) or equivalent English proficiency.

Desirable qualifications include training in psychology, nursing, social work, or related fields and experience working within under-5s services such as family support or early years education.

Salary Details

You’ll earn between £37,338 and £44,962 per year, fully funded through NHSE. This includes paid training time and the opportunity to continue in specialist pathways after course completion.

About the Role

As a CAMHS Practitioner Trainee (Infant and Early Years Practitioner), you’ll train through the Anna Freud Centre and University College London, developing expertise in supporting infants, young children, and their caregivers.

You’ll work within Luton Specialist CAMHS, rotating between the ‘0-5’ Parent-Infant Service and the Emotional and Behavioural Team, applying your training to real-world cases. This is a rare chance to blend academic study with hands-on experience, helping shape healthier beginnings for children and families.

Your week will balance 2.5 to 3 days of service-based practice with dedicated study days. You’ll handle a training caseload, gaining insight into cultural, developmental, and emotional diversity while contributing meaningfully to family wellbeing.

• Deliver early intervention for infants and young children experiencing emotional or developmental challenges.
• Collaborate with families and professionals to provide holistic mental health support.
• Apply evidence-based techniques learned through training to day-to-day clinical work.

• Maintain accurate case records to meet clinical and academic requirements.
