Job Summary
An exciting opportunity is available for a Band 4 Family Support Worker to join the Nottinghamshire CAMHS Single Point of Access (SPA) Service. This role is ideal for a dedicated and compassionate clinician who is eager to support children and young people with emotional and mental health difficulties, ranging from mild to severe.
The successful applicant will be joining a supportive, multidisciplinary team that works within the THRIVE model of care to enhance mental health outcomes for children, young people, and families. This role requires strong assessment, triage, and liaison skills to ensure that children receive the right care at the right time.
The position offers the opportunity to develop specialist skills in screening referrals, gathering contextual information, risk assessment, and networking with multi-agency teams.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Screen and triage referrals for children and young people with emotional and mental health needs.
- Conduct risk assessments, provide harm minimization advice, and support psychoeducational interventions.
- Liaise with GPs, schools, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to determine the most appropriate care pathway.
- Work closely with the CAMHS multidisciplinary team (MDT) in decision-making regarding referrals and service allocations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed clinical records in line with Trust policies.
- Attend team meetings, referral discussions, case reviews, safeguarding supervision, and peer support sessions.
- Support families and caregivers, ensuring they receive appropriate guidance and interventions.
- Work within a structured daily task allocation system, including multidisciplinary referral meetings and triage call responsibilities.

Qualifications
✅ Essential:
- Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) OR significant CAMHS experience with a willingness to undertake additional training.
✅ Desirable:
- Knowledge of therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, or solution-focused therapy.
Experience
✅ Essential:
- Experience working with children and young people with emotional and mental health needs.
- Proven ability to develop therapeutic relationships with children, young people, and their families.
- Experience in multi-agency and multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration.
- Ability to document case records accurately in accordance with Trust policies.
- Capability to provide harm minimization advice under the guidance of senior CAMHS SPA practitioners.
✅ Desirable:
- Experience using Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS) in clinical settings.
- Prior experience in community-based mental health services.
- Experience in group interventions for children, young people, and families.
- Previous involvement in delivering evidence-based interventions under supervision.
Knowledge
✅ Essential:
- Awareness of legislation and policies related to children’s mental health, safeguarding, and emotional well-being.
- Understanding of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practices.
- Knowledge of local mental health and social care services in Nottinghamshire.
✅ Desirable:
- Familiarity with parental support programs and behaviour management strategies for children with emotional health difficulties.
