Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3/4 in Health or Social Care or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above), including Maths and English
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and excellent computer/keyboard skills (ECDL or equivalent)
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a health or social care setting
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with cancer patients
  • Awareness of the needs of individuals affected by cancer
  • Ability to communicate empathetically with patients and families
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills
  • Willingness to travel between sites when required

Desirable Skills:

  • Communication skills training or counselling qualification
  • Knowledge of cancer treatments, interventions, and relevant policies
  • Experience in coordinating patient care
  • Understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support and its role in the UK

About the Role

As a Cancer Care Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Lung Cancer Nursing Team at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This position is essential in managing cancer patient pathways, ensuring timely appointments, investigations, and treatment plans. You will liaise with clinical and administrative teams, both within the Trust and tertiary centers, to streamline care delivery.

This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as you will interact with patients and families during challenging times. Additionally, you will provide administrative support, maintain patient records, and ensure that all data requirements are accurately inputted into the relevant systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient pathways to ensure timely cancer treatment
  • Liaise with clinical and administrative teams for seamless service delivery
  • Organise meetings, book rooms, and respond to email inquiries
  • Participate in public awareness and promotional events for cancer services
  • Attend and present at local and regional cancer conferences
  • Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Use hospital databases and systems to maintain patient records and generate reports
  • Facilitate the transition of care between different healthcare teams
  • Document all aspects of care coordination and service delivery
  • Provide emotional and practical support to cancer patients and their families

The ideal candidate should be empathetic, well-organised, and capable of working both independently and within a team. Experience in patient coordination and a strong understanding of cancer care pathways will be highly beneficial.
