About the Role:

As a Carpenter at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, you’ll play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing facilities at the Bethlem Royal Hospital and community properties. This position requires a keen, enthusiastic, and physically fit individual who can work both independently and as part of a larger team.

Your main responsibilities will include maintenance, reactive repairs, compliance monitoring, and associated remedial work. You’ll need to arrange your own work, manage parts and materials, and carry out tasks in a safe and tidy manner. The Trust provides a wide range of mental health services, so flexibility is key – you may sometimes need to work extra hours or alter your work patterns to ensure continuity of service.

A good general knowledge of domestic and commercial building services is essential. You’ll be conducting statutory checks in line with Approved Code of Practice (Building Regulations, HBN & HTM), so attention to detail and a commitment to safety are paramount.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake planned preventative maintenance and emergency work
  • Conduct statutory checks and ensure compliance with building regulations
  • Maintain and repair fire doors and compartmentalisation
  • Work safely in occupied areas, respecting the dignity of patients
  • Manage own workload, including arranging parts and materials
  • Drive between Trust properties as needed
  • Participate in training to remain current with relevant standards
  • Collaborate with other trades and team members
