The Celtic FC Women’s team has made significant changes ahead of the upcoming season, announcing the signing of twin sisters Signe and Mathilde Carstens while confirming the departure of Shen Mengyu and Shen Menglu.

Signe and Mathilde Carstens join Celtic from Danish club Fortuna Hjorring. The club’s official website highlights Mathilde’s “direct and technical skill” in the attacking third and Signe’s potential to strengthen central areas of the pitch. Both 22-year-olds bring valuable experience from the UEFA Women’s Champions League, having played for Fortuna Hjorring in their 2021 tie against Barcelona.

Head coach Elena Sadiku expressed her delight with the new additions, saying, “I’m thrilled that Mathilde and Signe have chosen to join Celtic. Their decision reflects the belief in our vision and goals for the coming seasons. Signe offers exceptional game understanding and technical prowess, while Mathilde’s remarkable dribbling skills will enhance our attack with assists and goals.”

However, as they welcome the Carstens sisters, the team also bids farewell to two key players. Shen Mengyu and Shen Menglu, instrumental in Celtic’s recent SWPL and cup successes, are leaving the club ahead of the 2024/25 season. The club announced their departures on social media, thanking them for their contributions and wishing them the best in their future endeavors.

A statement on the club’s social media read, “Shen Mengyu has left the Club after playing a crucial role in a successful period for Celtic FC Women, including our first SWPL title, two Scottish Cups, and an SWPL Cup. Thank you and best of luck, Shen.” Another post added, “We can also confirm the departure of Shen Menglu, who joined in 2022 and helped us achieve a Scottish Cup win and our first SWPL title. Thank you, Lu, and best wishes for your future career.”

These changes signal a new chapter for Celtic FC Women as they prepare for the challenges of the next season. With the Carstens sisters’ arrival and the departure of the Shens, the team is set to navigate its journey with renewed vigor and a fresh perspective.
