Requirements
- Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Healthcare Chaplaincy or equivalent relevant experience
- Accreditation from own faith authority, belief community or ordination
- Knowledge of a range of religions and ability to work in multi-faith settings
- Recent pastoral or church-based ministry experience
- Strong communication skills both written and spoken
- Capacity to offer pastoral care regardless of cultural or faith background
- Ability to prioritise demands while maintaining person-centred care
- UKBHC registration eligibility
Salary Details
Salary is Band 6 NHS Agenda for Change: £37,338 – £44,962 per year depending on experience
About the Role
This role is all about being present when it matters most. As a chaplain here, you’ll support patients, their loved ones, staff and visitors, offering pastoral and spiritual care that respects every background. You’ll collaborate closely with the palliative care team, maternity bereavement support, and other specialist services, making sure emotional and spiritual needs are met with compassion and professionalism. Whether you’re offering a listening ear in a quiet corner or advising on complex faith needs, your work will touch lives in profound ways.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred pastoral care to people of all faiths and none, ensuring dignity and respect
- Offer spiritual care where appropriate and arrange specialist support when needed
- Collaborate with ward staff, specialist teams and volunteers to deliver consistent care
- Contribute to hospital wellbeing initiatives for staff and patients
- Maintain professional boundaries while making sensitive decisions under pressure
