Job Summary

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a skilled Chef to join the catering team. Working full-time, the Chef will support the Deputy Head of Catering in ensuring the highest standards of food preparation, cooking, and service. The successful candidate will prepare and provide nutritious meals for patients, staff, and visitors, maintaining responsibility for the quality of each dish prepared.

The Chef must be committed to maintaining the highest standards of personal hygiene and food safety practices, ensuring compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations at all times.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Prepare, cook, and serve food to the highest standards, seeking feedback from patients and staff to continuously improve service.
  • Regularly review menus in line with dietary requirements and communicate with patients, staff, and visitors to ensure a balanced diet is provided.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free kitchen, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements for food hygiene, allergens, and temperature control.
  • Assist in ordering, managing, and controlling stock levels effectively.
  • Supervise kitchen assistants to promote high standards and ensure smooth kitchen operations.

Skills and Qualifications

  • City & Guilds 706/1&2 or NVQ equivalent.
  • Level 3 Award in Food Safety – Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • Basic Health & Safety Certificate and Allergen Awareness.
  • Experience working as a Chef in an industrial kitchen or traditional cooking environment.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Nebosh qualification.
  • Level 4 Food Safety Management.

Experience

  • Experience in preparing therapeutic diets.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP principles and their application in catering.

Working Hours and Enhancements

  • Saturday: Time plus 35% = £16.61 per hour.
  • Sunday/Bank Holiday: Time plus 69% = £20.08 per hour.
