Requirements
- Core profession in Social Work, Nursing or Allied Health
- Current professional registration with HCPC, NMC or Social Work England
- Post qualification CPD relevant to profession
- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as CBT or Family Therapy
- Strong understanding of Child Protection practice and legislation
- Experience working in CYPMHS or child mental health services
- Confidence in assessment, care planning and risk management
- Ability to work across agencies and build effective relationships
- IT skills including use of clinical systems and Microsoft Office
Salary Details
This role is offered at Band 6 under the NHS Agenda for Change scheme, between 38,682 and 46,580 per year.
About the Role
As a children’s and young people’s mental health practitioner, you’ll join the CYPMHS team in Birkenhead. You’ll be working with children, young people and their families who face mild to severe mental health challenges. This is about more than therapy sessions. It’s about listening carefully, providing assessments, and delivering evidence based interventions that make a real difference.
You’ll work alongside eating disorder specialists, service leads and a multi disciplinary team to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time. You’ll also play a part in developing the CYPMHS Access service, shaping how children and families experience mental health care in Wirral. This role is suited to someone who’s passionate about improving lives and committed to working collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out mental health assessments and provide tailored care plans that change lives
- Deliver therapeutic interventions that support recovery and resilience
- Work closely with families and carers to ensure children feel supported
- Collaborate with local authorities, schools and voluntary organisations for joined up care
- Contribute to the development of CYPMHS Access service, driving innovation in support
- Maintain accurate records and reflect best practice in clinical documentation
- Take part in supervision and CPD to strengthen skills and maintain high standards
